1. Chime Malfunction

Circuit Description

The body control module (BCM) monitors the ignition key alarm switch. When the key is in the ignition, the ignition key alarm switch is closed and the signal circuit is low. When the key is not in the ignition, the ignition key alarm switch is open and the signal circuit is high.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

â€¢ The ignition 1 input is active and the key in ignition switch signal circuit is inactive (signal circuit is high).
â€¢ The above conditions must be present for more than 5 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The BCM stores DTC B2961 in memory.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

â€¢ The DTC becomes history when the fault is no longer present.
â€¢ A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the malfunction is no longer present.
â€¢ The BCM receives the clear code command from the scan tool.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector X201.
  2. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Key In Ignition parameter is Key Out.
  3. ⇒If not the specified value, test the signal circuit terminal E6 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM
  4. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal E6 and ground. Verify the scan tool Key In Ignition parameter is Key In.
  5. ⇒If not the specified value, test the signal circuit E6 for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  6. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the ignition switch.
