Important:
• Do not reuse the crankshaft oil seal or engine rear cover gasket. • Do not apply any type of sealant to the engine rear cover gasket (unless
specified). • All gasket surfaces should be free of oil or other foreign material during
assembly. • The special tools in this procedure are used to correctly align the engine
rear cover at the oil pan surface and to centre the crankshaft rear oil seal. • An incorrectly aligned engine rear cover may cause premature rear oil
seal wear and/or engine assembly oil leaks. • The crankshaft rear oil seal will be installed after the engine rear cover
has been installed. • The crankshaft rear oil seal MUST be centred in relation to the crankshaft.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts (1) four places to 25 N·m(18 lb ft).
Important: The tapered legs of the alignment tool must enter the engine rear cover oil seal bore.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
• | Insert a feeler gauge between the engine rear cover and straight edge tool. |
• | The cover must be flush with the oil pan surface to no more than (A). |
Specification
Dimension (A): 0.25 mm (0.01 in).
• | If the engine rear cover to cylinder block oil pan surface alignment is not within specification, repeat the engine rear cover alignment procedure. |
• | If the correct alignment cannot be obtained, replace the engine rear cover. |
