With the exception of the oil pressure relief valve spring there are no parts in the oil pump or the oil pump pick-up screen and pipe that are serviced separately. If either component is found to be worn or damaged the assembly must be replaced.
- Clean all parts in a commercially available cleaning fluid and blow dry using compressed air.
- Inspect the following components:
• | Oil pump housing for cracks, excessive wear, scoring or casting imperfections |
• | Oil pump housing to cylinder block oil gallery surface for scratches or gouging |
• | Inspect the oil pump housing for damaged bolt hole threads. Refer to
Thread Repair if repairs are required. |
• | Oil pump relief valve plug and bore for scratched or damaged surfaces and the screw thread for damage. The pressure relief valve must be able to move freely within its bore with no restrictions. |
• | Oil pump internal oil passages for restrictions |
• | Inspect the drive and driven gears for chipping or wear. Minor burrs or imperfections on the gears can be removed with a fine oil stone. |
• | Inner gear drive splines for excessive wear |
• | Oil pump pick-up screen and pipe assembly and replace if either of the following conditions are observed |
- | Oil pump pick-up screen is clogged with debris or restriction |
- | Screen mesh is broken or has loose stands |
