SOME EARLY 1990 METRO CONVERTIBLES MAY EXHIBIT A SEPARATION OF THE FORE-AFT TOP FABRIC SEAM. THE CONDITION MAY ONLY OCCUR ON A LIMITED NUMBER OF EARLY PRODUCTION VEHICLES.
TO DETERMINE IF A VEHICLE HAS THIS CONDITION, REMOVE THE TOP SHIPPING COVER AND INSPECT THE SEAMS ON BOTH SIDES STARTING AT THE WINDSHIELD HEADER AND MOVING REARWARD APPROXIMATELY FOUR (4) INCHES. IF THE SEAM HAS STARTED TO SEPARATE, IT WILL BE EVIDENT IN THIS AREA. TO FURTHER FACILITATE THE INSPECTION, THE TOP HEADER LATCH MAY BE RE- LEASED AND THE TOP RAISED. THIS WILL RELIEVE THE TENSION ON THE TOP FABRIC AND ALLOW THE INSPECTION OF THE UNDERSIDE OF THE SEAM. NO EVIDENCE OF SEPARATION INDICATES THE SEAM SHOULD NOT FAIL.
IN THE EVENT A SEPARATED SEAM IS FOUND, CALL THE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE NETWORK AT 1-800-227-3175 FOR A REPLACEMENT TOP COVER.
