Tools Required

Notice: When disassembling the valve body halves, keep all valve springs, spring seats and plugs within their respective valves. Most valve springs are of different sizes and CANNOT be interchanged. Verify that all parts are clean and dry before assembly.

1. Remove the 3 check balls (1).
2. Remove the secondary regulator valve assembly from the lower valve body (2) by removing the following components:

•

One key

•	The secondary regulator valve plug (14)

•	The secondary regulator valve (13)

•	The secondary regulator valve spring (12)

3. Remove the low coast shift valve assembly from the lower valve body by removing the following components:

•

One key

•	The low coast shift valve plug (11)

•	The low coast shift valve (10)

•	The low coast shift valve spring (9)

4. Remove the intermediate shift valve assembly from the lower valve body by removing the following components:

•

One key

•	The intermediate shift valve plug (8)

•	The intermediate shift valve (7)

•	The intermediate shift valve spring (6)

5. Remove the lock-up signal valve assembly from the lower valve body by removing the following components:

•

One pin

•	The lock-up signal valve plug (5)

•	The lock-up signal valve (4)

•	The lock-up signal valve spring (3)




6. Remove the pressure relief valve assembly from the lower valve body (1) by removing the following components:

•	The pressure relief valve (2)

•	The pressure relief valve spring (5)

7. Remove the cooler bypass valve assembly from the lower valve body by removing the following components:

•	The cooler bypass valve (3)

•	The cooler bypass valve spring (4)

8. Remove the 2-3 shift valve assembly from the lower valve body by removing the following components:

•

One key

•	The 2-3 shift valve plug (17)

•	The 2-3 shift valve (18)

9. Remove the detent regulator valve assembly from the lower valve body by removing the following components:

•

One key

•	The detent regulator valve plug (16)

•	The detent regulator valve (15)

•	The detent regulator valve spring (14)

10. Remove the 1-2 shift valve assembly from the lower valve body by removing the following components:

•

One key

•	The 1-2 shift valve plug (13)

•	The 1-2 shift lower valve (12)

•	The 1-2 shift upper valve (11)

11. Remove the primary regulator valve assembly from the lower valve body by removing the following components:

•

One key

•	The primary regulator valve sleeve (10)

•	The primary regulator valve plunger (9)

•	The primary regulator valve spring (8)

•	The plate washer

•	The adjusting ring (7)

•	The primary regulator valve (6)

12. Clean all components thoroughly with solvent. Dry the components.
13. Inspect all valves for cracks, scoring, or other damage. Replace as necessary.
14. Inspect all valve springs for damage or distortion. Replace as necessary.
15. Inspect the upper valve body bores for scoring or cracks. Replace as necessary.
16. Measure the free length and the outer coil diameter of all of the lower valve body valve springs using J 26900-6 . Replace any spring whose length does not meet the specification. Refer to Control Valve Lower Body Spring Specifications .

Important: Use J 36850 or equivalent in order to retain the installed components.

1. Install the components of the primary regulator valve assembly onto the lower valve body (1):

•	The primary regulator valve (6)

•	The adjusting ring (7)

•	The plate washer

•	The primary regulator valve spring (8)

•	The primary regulator valve plunger (9)

•	The primary regulator valve sleeve (10)

•

2. Install the components of the 1-2 shift valve assembly onto the lower valve body:

•	The 1-2 shift upper valve (11)

•	The 1-2 shift lower valve (12)

•	The 1-2 shift valve plug (13)

•

One key

3. Install the components of the detent regulator valve assembly onto the lower valve body:

•	The detent regulator valve spring (14)

•	The detent regulator valve (15)

•	The detent regulator valve plug (16)

•

One key

4. Install the components of the 2-3 shift valve assembly onto the lower valve body:

•	The 2-3 shift valve (18)

•	The 2-3 shift valve plug (17)

•

One key

5. Install the components of the cooler bypass valve assembly onto the lower valve body:

•	The cooler bypass valve spring (4)

•	The cooler bypass valve (3)

6. Install the components of the pressure relief valve assembly onto the lower valve body:

•	The pressure relief valve spring (5)

•	The pressure relief valve (2)




7. Install the components of the lock-up signal valve assembly onto the lower valve body (2):

•	The lock-up signal valve spring (3)

•	The lock-up signal valve (4)

•	The lock-up signal valve plug (5)

•

8. Install the components of the intermediate shift valve assembly onto the lower valve body :

•	The intermediate shift valve spring (6)

•	The intermediate shift valve (7)

•	The intermediate shift valve plug (8)

•

9. Install the components of the low coast shift valve assembly onto the lower valve body:

•	The low coast shift valve spring (9)

•	The low coast shift valve (10)

•	The low coast shift valve plug (11)

•

10. Install the components of the secondary regulator valve assembly onto the lower valve body:

•	The secondary regulator valve spring (12)

•	The secondary regulator valve (13)

•	The secondary regulator valve plug (14)

•

11. Install the 3 check balls (1).
