Removal Procedure

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief.

  2. Object Number: 816380  Size: SH
  3. For vehicles equipped with the spin on fuel filter, unscrew fuel filter from fuel filter head.
  4. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  5. For vehicles equipped with an inline fuel filter, perform the following:

  7. Remove the fuel feed and return pipes at the filter.

  8. Object Number: 816383  Size: SH
  9. If required, remove the 2 fuel filter clamp nuts and the fuel filter clamp for the frame rail or the fuel filter bracket.
  10. Remove the fuel filter clamp from the filter.
  11. Note: If the fuel filter is plugged, inspect the fuel tank internally and clean if necessary. Refer to Fuel System Cleaning.

  12. Inspect the fuel filter.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the protective caps from the new filter.
  2. For vehicles equipped with an inline fuel filter, perform the following:

  4. If removed, install the fuel filter clamp on to the fuel filter.
  5. Install the fuel filter clamp through the frame rail or fuel filter bracket with 2 nuts.
  6. Position fuel filter in the fuel filter clamp with the flow arrow pointing toward the engine.
  7. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  8. Install the fuel feed and return pipes to the fuel filter.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel pipe nuts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  10. If the vehicle is equipped with a spin off filter, install filter on fuel filter head.
  11. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  12. 8.1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF for 2 seconds.
    8.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    8.3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
    8.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  14. Start the engine and inspect for fuel leaks.
