Does the system operate normally?

  1. Remove the rear window defogger relay, refer to Rear Window Defogger Relay Replacement .
  2. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter between the rear window defogger relay cavity A2 for CKT 293 (PPL) and a known good ground.
  3. Turn the ignition ON.
  4. Measure voltage at this point.

Is voltage greater than the specified value?

1 V

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Locate and repair the short to B+ in CKT 293 (PPL) between the rear window defogger relay cavity A2 and the rear window, refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step  10

  1. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter between the rear window defogger relay cavity A1 CKT 267 (ORN) wire and a known good ground.
  2. Measure the voltage at this point.

Is the voltage measured above the specified value?

1 V

Go to Step 6

  1. Disconnect connector C3 at the heater and A/C controller.
  2. Connect a J 39200 digital multimeter between the rear window defogger relay cavity A1 CKT 267 (ORN) wire and a known good ground.
  3. Measure the voltage at this point.

Is the voltage measured above the specified value?

1 V

Go to Step 7

Locate and repair the short to B+ in CKT 267 (ORN) wire, refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step  10

Replace the rear window defogger relay, refer to Rear Window Defogger Relay Replacement .

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step  10

Replace the heater and A/C controller, refer to Control Assembly Replacement in HVAC Manual.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step  10

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
