Did you perform the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock System Check?

Disconnect the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) with the ignition key in the RUN position and the shift lever in PARK.

Does the shift linkage unlock?

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch connector.
  2. Connect a test lampJ 35616-200 from CKT 1135 (DK GRN/WHT) cavity E at the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch connector and ground.

Did the test lamp light?

Remove the BTSI solenoid assembly. Refer to Auto Trans Shift Lock Control - Disassemble.

Does the shift linkage unlock?

Go to Symptom Diagnosis in Automatic Transmission

Repair the short to voltage in CKT 1135 (DK GRN/WHT) between the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch connector and the BTSI solenoid connector.

Is the repair complete?

Replace the Brake Pedal Position (BPP) switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.

Replace the BTSI solenoid. Refer to Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control Assemble - Off Vehicle .
