Transmission Housing Oil Seal Replacement Rear Seal (2wd)

Tools Required

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.



3. UsingJ 36825 andJ 23907 , pry the seal out of the extension housing.

1. Position J 36502-2A over the output shaft.



2. Using J 36502 , install the rear output shaft seal.



3. Remove J 36502-2A from the output shaft.



4. Fill the space between the seal lips with grease GM P/N 1052497 or equivalent.
5. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
6. Check the transmission oil level. Refer to Fluid Replacement .
7. Lower the vehicle.
