CAMPAIGN: PARK BRAKE LEVER PIVOT BOLT LOOSE (INSPECTION)

Models: 1991 Chevrolet Motorhome Chassis With C7P (16000 lbs. GVW)

General Motors of Canada has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1991 P3 motorhome chassis with C7P (16000 lbs. GVW). Some of these vehicles were shipped with the automatic apply transmission-mounted parking brake lever pivot bolt "finger" loose. This parking brake will be applied automatically when the automatic transmission shift lever is placed in the "PARK" position, or it can be applied manually using the foot operated pedal. With the loose pivot bolt, it may be possible for the parking brake to suddenly release if it is manually applied. If the bolt should "fall out" and the park brake is automatically applied, it is possible that the amount of brake apply may be insufficient to hold the vehicle on an incline once the operator has exited the vehicle. Either of these conditions may allow the vehicle to roll away and result in personal injury or property damage.

To prevent this condition from occurring, dealers will torque the pivot bolt to specifications.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
