Removal Procedure

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Discharge and recover the refrigerant from the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. If equipped, disconnect the air conditioning (A/C) receiver/dryer electrical connector from the A/C receiver/dryer pressure switch.
  4. If equipped, disconnect the dehydrator electrical connector from the dehydrator pressure switch.

  5. If equipped, remove the A/C condenser tube and the O-ring seal from the A/C receiver/dryer.
  6. If equipped, remove the A/C condenser tube and the O-ring seal from the dehydrator.

    Discard the O-ring seal.

  7. Remove the A/C evaporator hose and the O-ring seal from the A/C condenser.
  8. Discard the O-ring seal.

  9. If equipped, remove the A/C receiver/dryer clamp bolt.
  10. If equipped, remove the dehydrator clamp bolt.

  11. If equipped, remove the A/C receiver/dryer from the A/C receiver/dryer clamp.
  12. If equipped, remove the dehydrator from the dehydrator clamp.

Installation Procedure

  1. If equipped, install the A/C receiver/dryer in the A/C receiver/dryer clamp.
  2. If equipped, install the dehydrator in the dehydrator clamp.

  3. Coat the new O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  4. Install the new O-ring seal.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. If equipped, connect the A/C condenser tube to the A/C receiver/dryer.
  7. If equipped, connect the A/C condenser tube to the dehydrator.

    Tighten
Tighten the A/C condenser tube to the A/C receiver/dryer or the dehydrator fitting to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  8. Coat the new O-ring seal with 525 viscosity refrigerant.
  9. Install the new O-ring seal.
  10. Connect the A/C evaporator hose to the A/C condenser.
  11. If equipped, install the A/C receiver/dryer clamp bolt.
  12. If equipped, install the dehydrator clamp bolt.

  13. If equipped, connect the A/C receiver/dryer electrical connector to the A/C receiver dryer pressure switch.
  14. If equipped, connect the dehydrator electrical connector to the dehydrator pressure switch.

  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16. Add the refrigerant to the system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  17. Inspect the system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing .
