CAMPAIGN: PWR. STG. HOSE INADEQUATE THREAD ENGAGEMENT

SUBJECT: POWER STEERING HOSE INADEQUATE THREAD ENGAGEMENT

MODELS: 1900 C6H-C7H TOPKICK/KODIAK TRUCKS

General Motors has determined that certain 1990 C6H-C7H TopKick/Kodiak medium trucks may have inadequate thread engagement between the power steering pump and the power steering gear high pressure hose. This may result in stripped tube nuts on the gear inlet hose assemblies, allowing a slight power steering fluid leak and eventual loss of power steering assist.

To correct this condition, it will be necessary to replace the power steering pump hose assembly with a new hose assembly.

Dear GM Owner:

General Motors has determined that certain 1990 C6H-C7H TopKick/Kodiak medium trucks may have inadequate thread engagement between the power steering pump and the power steering gear high pressure hose. This may result in stripped tube nuts on the gear inlet hose assemblies, allowing a alight power steering fluid leak and eventual loss of power steering assist.

To correct this condition, it will be necessary to replace the power steering pump hose assembly with a new hose assembly. This service will be provided for you at no charge.

Please contact your GM Truck dealer as soon as possible to arrange a service date. Instructions for making this correction have been sent to your dealer. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much time will be needed to schedule, process and repair your vehicle.

The enclosed postage paid owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in mailing the necessary correction to your vehicle in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please furnish us complete name and address of the person you sold or traded your vehicle to and return the card to us.

We are sorry to cause you this inconvenience; however, we have taken this action in the interest of your continued satisfaction with our products.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
