BLISTERING CHASSIS PAINT PAINT REPAIR PROCEDURE

SUBJECT: REPAIR PAINT FOR WATER-BORNE COATING OF CHASSIS (SERVICE PROCEDURE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1990 5H,6H,7H TOPKICK MEDIUM DUTY TRUCKS

Some of the above subject units may experience the lifting or blistering of the chassis paint. To correct, the vendor, BASF, recommends the following steps be taken:

1. Clean the surface to be painted with mild detergent and water. If surface corrosion is present use Sherwin Williams Metal Mate(R) (P/N W4K289) .

2. Dry sand with aluminum oxide grit #400 sandpaper to remove all loose paint and prepare surface.

3. Apply three coats of R-M(R) (Rinshed-Mason) water-based primer HP0100/Nova-Prime, per label instructions. Be sure to allow at least one minute between coats.

4. Flash dry and dry sand with #400 grit sandpaper.

5. Refinish with Miracryl (R) colour #M-83320 flat black.

There are no General Motors part numbers for the above described prime and finish paints. BASF advises these paints are available over the counter at any R-M dealer.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
