Valve Housing and Input Shaft Disassemble TRW Ross

Disassemble the valve housing when the following conditions exist:

    • Internal leakage
    • Heat damage
    • Component damage
    • Bearing roughness
    • Maladjusted worm preload

Tools Required

    • J 37612-A TAS65 Complete Tool Kit
    •  J 37070 Spanner Wrench
    • J 37464 Spanner Wrench

  1. Place the valve housing and input shaft (7) assembly in a vise.
  2. Ensure that the worm shaft is positioned vertically.

  3. Use a suitable punch in order to unstake the valve housing where the housing was upset into the adjuster locknut slot.
  4. Unstake the adjuster nut from the adjuster.
  5. Use the J-37464 from the J 37612-A in order to remove the bearing adjuster jam nut (13).
  6. Use the J-37070 from the J 37612-A in order to remove the bearing adjuster (12).
  7. Remove the following components from the bearing adjuster:
  8. 6.1. The seal (10)
    6.2. The O-ring (11)
  9. Remove the thin washer (9).
  10. Remove the thrust bearing (8).
  11. Remove the input shaft (7).
  12. Remove the valve.
  13. Remove the worm assembly.
  14. Remove the thrust bearing.

  16. Remove the thick thrust washer from the valve housing.
  17. Notice: Do not disassemble the input shaft and valve worm assembly further. The components are a select fit at assembly and are available only as part of this subassembly. If disassembled further, the subassembly must be replaced.

  18. Remove the seals (15) and the O-ring (10) from the valve housing (1).
  19. Remove the retaining ring (7).
  20. Remove the seal (14) from the valve housing using a suitable socket against the exterior side of the seal.
  21. Do not damage the valve housing bore.
