Subject:Rear Tailgate May Be Difficult To Open or Close

Models:2007 Chevrolet Colorado
2007 GMC Canyon

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The rear tailgate may bind when opening or closing. This would be the result of the rubber bumper on the left and right sides of the tailgate not compressing as the tailgate makes contact.

Recommendation/Instructions:

To allow the rubber bumper to compress easier, follow the steps below

  1. Remove the rubber bumper under the striker on the left and right side of the vehicle.

  2. Object Number: 1870481 Size: SH
  3. On the bumper, their are existing holes that run from top to bottom of the bumper. Add 2, 3/16" or (4.4mm) holes in each bumper. It will be necessary to place the first hole at the top of the bumper. This would be between the upper most hole and the top edge of the bumper. The second hole will need to be placed between the bottom most hole and the second hole up.

  4. Object Number: 1870489 Size: SH

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
