High Intensity Discharge Headlamp Starter/Arc Tube Replacement Acadia TVD

Component Name

Warning: The high intensity discharge system produces high voltage and current. In order to reduce the risk of severe shocks and burns, the battery negative cable must be disconnected any time service work is being performed on or around the high intensity discharge system.

Warning: The high intensity discharge system produces high voltage and current. To reduce the risk of severe shocks and burns:

   • Never open the high intensity discharge system ballast or the arc tube assembly starter.
   • Never probe between the high intensity discharge system ballast output connector and the arc tube assembly.

Preliminary Procedure

Remove the wheelhouse liner in order to access the backside of the headlamp capsule. Refer to Front Wheelhouse Front Liner Replacement.

Headlamp Accessory Bulb Cover

Tip
Rotate the cover a quarter turn counter-clockwise and remove.

Disconnect the wire clip securing the starter arc tube to the headlamp capsule assembly.

Headlamp Starter/Arc Tube

Warning: Refer to Halogen Bulb Warning in the Preface section.

Procedure

  1. Pull the starter arc tube from the capsule assembly.
  2. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  3. Remove the arc tube from the capsule assembly.

Starter Arc Tube Electrical Connector

Tip
Connect the electrical connector prior to installing the starter arc tube back into the headlamp capsule.

Headlamp Bulb and Ballast Locking Ring

Procedure

Shown in the locked position, using your 2 fingers, rotate the locking ring counter-clockwise to unlock the bulb and ballast.

Headlamp Bulb and Ballast Locking Ring

Procedure

  1. Position and secure the electrical wire harness connector to the headlamp bulb and ballast.
  2. Position and secure the headlamp ballast and bulb assembly to the headlamp.
  3. Rotate the locking ring in a clockwise position in order to secure the ballast and bulb assembly to the headlamp capsule.
