Rear Sunshade Electric System Operation

The intent of the Rear Electric Sunshade feature is to provide glare protection and privacy to the vehicle occupants. When the activation button in the overhead console is pressed, the power sunshade module will provide the power sunshade motor with positive voltage. Over a period of approximately 6 seconds, the rear power sunshade will extend out of the rear window shelf trim, providing rear occupants with privacy and glare protection. Once fully extended, a second press of the rear sunshade activation button will retract the rear power sunshade.

Rear Sunshade Electric System Power and Grounds

High current battery voltage is supplied to the rear power sunshade 10A F22 Fuse located in the underhood fuse block. The rear power sunshade uses this voltage to power the sunshade motor. Battery positive voltage from the 10A F22 Fuse located in the underhood fuse block is applied to the rear sunshade assembly with the ignition in the ON position. The rear power sunshade assembly is grounded via circuit G208.

Rear Sunshade Circuit Description

The rear sunshade module sends a 5? volt reference voltage through the rear sunshade button signal to the rear sunshade button located on the overhead console. When the rear sunshade button is pressed, the signal circuit is closed to ground and the 5? volt supply is dropped across the resistor indicating the rear sunshade request.

Automatic Fail Safe Features

Below are automatic protection features built into the rear window sunshade system. When any of these features are activated, the rear window sunshade assembly will take the listed action:

    • Interruption to the rear window sunshade's operation during extension (on) - The rear window sunshade will remain in the interrupted position until the rear window sunshade button is pressed again upon which time it will return to the retracted position.
    • Interruption to the rear window sunshade's operation during retraction (off) - The rear window sunshade will stay in the interrupted position until the rear window sunshade button is pressed again, upon which time it will return the extended position.
    • If the rear window sunshade is in the extended position when reverse gear is selected on the transmission selector lever , the rear window sunshade will retract. When the transmission selector lever is moved out of reverse gear, the rear window sunshade button must be pressed to extend the rear window sunshade.
