Inside Rearview Mirror Description and Operation LWBLHD

Manual Day/Night Rearview Mirror

The manual day/night rearview mirror is mounted to a boss which is attached to the centre of the windshield. The boss is a part of the windshield assembly. To reduce the glare from vehicles following at night the lever at the base of the manual day/night rearview mirror can be pulled rearward to tilt the mirror. This enables rear vision to be maintained, but reduces glare.

Electro-chromatic Rearview Mirror

The electro-chromatic rearview mirror is mounted to a boss which is attached to the centre of the windshield. The boss is a part of the windshield assembly. The electro-chromatic rearview mirror uses 2 light sensors. One sensor is the headlight sensor, located on the face side of the electro-chromatic rearview mirror. The headlight sensor is used to determine light conditions present at the electro-chromatic rearview mirror face. The other sensor is the ambient light sensor, located on the front of the electro-chromatic rearview mirror or windshield side. The ambient light sensor is used to determine light conditions present at the Electro-chromatic rearview mirror. With automatic day/night feature enabled, the electro-chromatic rearview mirror uses the ambient light sensor to determine the exterior light condition. With a low light condition detected, and a high light condition from behind at the headlight sensor, the electro-chromatic rearview mirror will automatically darken the electro-chromatic rearview mirror face.

With the gear selector lever in the REVERSE position, backup lamp supply voltage is supplied as an input to the electro-chromatic rearview mirror. The electro-chromatic rearview mirror monitors this input to disable the automatic day/night feature which allows the face to gradually change to a normal state. This allows the driver to see objects in the electro-chromatic rearview mirror clearly when backing up.
