Starter Replacement 3.6L Engine

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Ignition OFF.
  3. Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  4. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.

  5. Object Number: 1949862  Size: SH
  6. Remove the starter motor solenoid electrical connector (2) from the starter motor.
  7. Remove the battery positive cable retaining nut (1) from the starter motor solenoid .

  8. Object Number: 1949864  Size: SH
  9. Remove the starter motor to bell housing retaining bolts (2).
  10. Remove the starter motor (1) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Manoeuvre the starter motor into place, locating into the correct position on the bell housing.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1949864  Size: SH
  4. Install the starter motor to bell housing (2) retaining bolt.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  6. Install the battery positive cable to the battery solenoid.
  7. Install the starter motor solenoid cable to the starter motor retaining nut (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (14 lb ft).

  9. Install the starter motor solenoid cable (1) to the starter motor.
  10. Lower the vehicle from supports. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  11. Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  12. Connect negative battery terminal. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
