Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement.
  4. Remove the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.
  5. Remove the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement.

  6. Object Number: 2027612  Size: SH
  7. Release the rear park brake cable end fitting (1) from the drum brake backing plate.
  8. Remove the wheel bearing/hub assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement

  9. Object Number: 2027622  Size: SH
  10. Remove the brake backing plate (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 2027622  Size: SH
  1. Install the brake backing plate (1).
  2. Install the wheel bearing/hub assembly. Refer to Rear Wheel Bearing and Hub Replacement

  3. Object Number: 2027612  Size: SH
  4. Secure the rear park brake cable end fitting (1) to the brake backing plate.
  5. Install the wheel cylinder. Refer to Wheel Cylinder Replacement.
  6. Install the brake shoes. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement.
  7. Adjust the drum brakes. Refer to Drum Brake Adjustment.
  8. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement.
  9. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.
  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
