Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1282112 Size: SH

    Notice: Apply pressure only at the end of the liftgate/hood assist rod that you are removing or attaching. Do NOT apply pressure to the middle of the rod because damage or bending will result.

  1. Open and suitably support the tailgate.
  2. Remove the bolt and the gas support assembly from the body.
  3. Remove the bolt and the gas support assembly from the tailgate.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

    Important: If a new gas support is used, the ball joints must be mounted first and then the gas support shall be connected to the ball joints.

  1. Install the gas support assembly and the bolt to the tailgate.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the gas support assembly bolts to 20 N·m (14 lb ft).

  2. Install the gas support assembly and the bolt to the body.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the gas support assembly bolt to 20 N·m (14 lb ft).
