Tools Required
J 37637 Case Separator
- Remove the following components from the rear case:
• | The gearshift lever case |
- Remove the clutch release
bearing (2) from the input shaft.
- Remove the clutch fork boot (1).
- Remove the following components
from the upper and lower case:
• | The 8 clutch housing bolts (2) |
• | The clutch housing (1) |
- Remove the transfer case bolts and remove the transfer case.
- Remove the following components
from the upper case (1) and the lower case (3):
- Remove 8 bolts (2)
from the input shaft bearing retainer (1).
- Use 2 flat-bladed tools
and a clean cloth in order to remove the input shaft bearing retainer (1)
from the upper and lower cases (2, 3).
- Remove the ten upper-to-lower
case retaining bolts.
- Use the J 37637
in
order to separate the upper (1) and lower (2) case halves.
- Remove the main shaft and the input shaft assembly.
Important: The input shaft rides on a needle bearing between the input shaft and
the main shaft assembly.
When the input shaft separates from the main shaft assembly, the needle
bearing may remain either in the input shaft or on the main shaft assembly.
Remove the input shaft needle bearing in order to prevent damage when
servicing the input shaft and the main shaft assembly.
- Remove the following components from the main shaft:
• | The input shaft needle bearing |

- Remove the clutch release
bearing (2) from the input shaft.
- Remove the clutch fork boot (1).
- Remove the following components
from the upper and lower case:
3.1. | The 8 clutch housing bolts (2) |
3.2. | The clutch housing (1) |
- Remove the following components
from the extension case:
4.2. | The gearshift lever case |
- Remove the following components from the upper and lower case:
- Remove the 8 bolts from
the input shaft bearing retainer (1) .
- Use two flat-bladed tools in order to remove the input shaft bearing
retainer from the upper and lower cases.
- Remove the 10 upper-to-lower
case retaining bolts.
- Use the J 37637
in
order to separate the upper (1) and lower (2) case halves.
- Remove the main shaft and the input shaft assembly from the lower
case.
Important: The input shaft rides on a needle bearing between the input shaft and
the main shaft assembly.
The needle bearing may remain either in the input shaft or on the main
shaft assembly during separation of the input shaft from the main shaft assembly.
Remove the input shaft needle bearing in order to prevent damage during
service of the input shaft and the main shaft assembly.
- Remove the following components from the main shaft:
