Is the remote CD player mute or skipping?

Examine the radio display.

Does the display show the letter E followed by 2 numbers (E##)?

If the letter E followed by 2 numbers appears in the radio display while trying to play a CD in the compact disc player, inspect the CD player for the following conditions:

    • The disc is inserted upside down
    • A dirty disc
    • A badly scratched disc
    • The disc has moisture build-up
    • Extremely high internal instrument panel temperatures causing the disc to be ejected

Is the remote CD changer operating correctly?

Service the CD changer. Refer to Remote Compact Disc Player Replacement .

Is the symptom still present?

  1. Inspect the disc for proper insertion.
  2. Inspect the disc for scratches.
  3. Inspect the disc for dirt or fingerprints. Clean the disc as needed.
  4. Observe the road for roughness. The condition may be normal.
  5. Duplicate the condition with a known good disc. Some discs may contain marks not readily visible.

Is the remote CD changer operating correctly?

Use a test lamp in order to backprobe between the remote CD changer harness connector terminal 15 to ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair a short to ground, a faulty connection or an open in CKT 640.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Disconnect the remote CD changer harness connector.
  2. Use a test lamp in order to backprobe the remote CD changer harness connector terminal 15 to terminal 13.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair the faulty connection or the open in CKT 351, between the remote CD changer harness connector terminal 13 and radio harness connector C3 terminal 13.

Is the repair complete?

Use a J 39200 in order to test CKT 372 for resistance between the radio connector C3 terminal 12 and the remote CD changer harness connector terminal 12.

Is the resistance within the specified range?

0-2ohms

Repair the faulty connection or the open in CKT 372.

Is the repair complete?

Use a test lamp in order to backprobe between the remote CD changer harness connector at terminal 12 and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

Repair the short to B+ in CKT 372.

  1. Use a test lamp in order to backprobe between the remote CD changer harness connector terminal 7 and ground.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Use a test lamp in order to backprobe the radio harness connector C3 terminal 7 and ground.

Does the test lamp light?

  1. Inspect for a faulty connection at the remote CD changer harness connector terminal 7.
  2. If the connection is OK, service the CD changer. Refer to Remote Compact Disc Player Replacement .

Repair the open in CKT 314 between the CD changer and the radio.

  1. Inspect for a short to ground in CKT 314.
  2. If the circuit is not grounded, inspect for a faulty connection at the radio connector C3 terminal 7.
  3. If the connection is good, service the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement .
