Removal Procedure

Important: Important there is no service interval for in-pipe fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-pipe fuel filter if it is restricted.

  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief.
  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer Servicing Quick Connect Fittings.
  4. Remove the quick-connect fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Servicing Quick Connect Fittings.
  5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
  6. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket attaching nut.
  7. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter and mounting bracket.
  8. Remove the in-pipe fuel filter from the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket.
  9. Remove the original fuel feed pipe and discard. Refer to Fuel Hose and Pipes.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the supplied fuel feed pipe from the fuel filter kit in the same orientation as the original.
  2. Remove the protective caps from the new in-pipe fuel filter.
  3. Install the in-pipe fuel filter into the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket so the flow indication arrow points towards the front of the vehicle.
  4. Install the in-pipe fuel filter and mounting bracket.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the in-pipe fuel filter mounting bracket attaching nut.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the in-pipe fuel filter bracket attaching nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  8. Install the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Servicing Quick Connect Fittings.
  9. Install the quick-connect fitting at the outlet of the in-pipe fuel filter. Refer to Servicing Quick Connect Fittings.
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Tighten the fuel tank filler pipe cap.
  12. Install the negative battery cable.
  13. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  14. 11.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
    11.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
    11.3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    11.4. Check for fuel leaks.
