Diagnostic Fault Information

Important: Always perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

The roof/door module uses the rear compartment ajar switch to determine the position of the rear compartment lid. When the lid is open, the rear compartment ajar switch is closed, providing a ground path for the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal circuit. When the roof/door module sees the rear compartment lid ajar, a serial data message is sent to the driver information center (DIC) requesting the Cargo Cover Ajar message be displayed.

Circuit/System Verification

Open the rear compartment lid. The Cargo Cover Ajar message should be displayed on the DIC.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear compartment ajar switch.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 1 ohm of resistance between the ground circuit and ground.
  3. If greater than 1 ohm, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Using a scan tool, verify the rear compartment lid ajar parameter is CLOSED.
  5. If not CLOSED, test the lid ajar switch signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the roof/door module.
  6. Install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the lid ajar switch signal circuit and ground. With a scan tool, verify the rear compartment lid ajar parameter is OPEN.
  7. If not OPEN, test the lid ajar switch signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If circuit tests normal, replace the roof/door module.
  8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the lid ajar switch.

Component Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the lid ajar switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal terminal and the ground terminal with the switch in the open position.
  3. If less than infinite resistance, replace the lid ajar switch.
  4. Test for less than 1 ohm between the signal terminal and the ground terminal with the switch in the closed position.
  5. If greater than 1 ohm, replace the lid ajar switch.
