Was the Data Link Communications System Check performed?

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to RUN.
  3. Turn ON the scan tool.

Does the scan tool turn ON?

--

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Data Link Communications

  1. Turn ignition OFF.
  2. Disconnect the scan tool from the DLC.
  3. Test battery positive voltage CKT for voltage. Refer to Troubleshooting with a Test Lamp in Wiring Systems.

Did the test lamp light?

Go to Step 5

Repair open battery positive voltage CKT. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

--

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Data Link Communications

Test ground CKT cavities 4 and 5 for continuity to ground. Refer to Testing for Continuity in Wiring Systems.

Is the resistance within the specified value?

0-5 ohms

Go to Step 7

Repair open ground CKT(s). Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

  1. Check connections at DLC. Refer to Intermittents and Poor Connections Diagnosis in Wiring Systems.
  2. Scan tool may be malfunctioning. Refer to scan tool instruction manual. Try using a different scan tool.
