Tools Required

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.



3. Using J 36825 and J 23907 , pry the seal out of the extension housing.

1. Position J 36502-2A over the output shaft.



2. Using J 36502 install the rear output shaft seal.



3. Remove J 36502-2A from the output shaft.



4. Fill the space between the seal lips with grease GM P/N 1052497 or equivalent.
5. Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or to Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
6. Check the transmission oil level. Refer to Fluid Replacement .
7. Lower the vehicle.
