WATER PUMP PULLEY BELT REVISION INFORMATION

Some S-10 trucks equipped with the 2.8L V6 engine may experience a fracture of the water pump pulley. This condition may be aggrevated by the belt routing used on these units. In the event a pulley fracture is encountered, a new AIR belt, P/N 14029058, should be installed.

When installing this belt, a revised routing is required as shown in Figure 1.

Refer to the 1982 "S" Series Truck Shop Manual, Page 6B-9, for the installation procedure.

Belt tension for this new part is 600 Newton Meters (135 lb. ft.) or 300 N.m (68 lb. ft.) for retention of a used belt plus or minus 50 N.m (11 lb. ft.). A Kent-Moore J-23600-B or Burroughs BT-33-95ACBN belt tension gauge should be used to determine belt tension.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
