Removal Procedure
Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:
• | Unnecessary SIR system repairs |
In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
• | Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. |
• | If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System. |
- Disable the SIR system.

- Remove the knee bolster trim panel and the knee bolster. Refer
to
Knee Bolster Replacement
in Instrument
Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Remove the 3 screws
and the steering column lower trim cover (6).
- Remove the screw and the steering column upper trim cover (7).
- Remove the ignition lock
cylinder (8) from the ignition lock cylinder case (7). Refer
to
Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement - On Vehicle
.
- Disconnect the ignition key alarm switch connector (9).
- Remove the ignition key alarm switch (9) from the case.
- Remove the 2 screws and the ignition lock cylinder solenoid (1)
from the case.
- If necessary, remove the ignition lock cylinder solenoid wires
from the ignition key alarm switch connector.
Installation Procedure
- If you removed the ignition
lock cylinder solenoid wires (1) from the ignition key alarm switch
connector (9), install the solenoid wires to the connector.
- Install the ignition lock cylinder solenoid to the ignition lock
cylinder case (7).
Install the 2 screws in order to retain the solenoid to the case.
- Install the ignition key alarm switch (9) to the case.
- Connect the ignition key alarm switch connector.
- Install the ignition lock cylinder (8) to the case. Refer

.
- Install the steering column
upper trim cover (7).
Install the screw in order to retain the upper trim cover to the column.
- Install the steering column lower trim cover (6).
Install the 3 screws in order to retain the lower trim cover
to the column.
- Install the knee bolster and the knee bolster trim panel. Refer
to
Knee Bolster Replacement
in Instrument
Panel, Gauges, and Console.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to
Enabling the SIR System
in SIR.
