Service Procedure

Perform this service procedure on vehicles in dealer inventory that are listed on the attached VIN list and in the GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS).

2.0L (L34) Engine Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) Orifice Restrictor Inspection

    Object Number: 1769935 Size: SH
  1. Remove the PCV hose (breather tube) from the camshaft cover.

  2. Object Number: 1769937 Size: SH

Important: If it is difficult to determine if the PCV orifice restrictor is installed, use a 3 mm (1/8 in) drill bit (arrow 3) to check the hole diameter of the PCV orifice restrictor. The 3 mm (1/8 in) drill bit will not fit into a 2 mm (5/64 in) PCV orifice restrictor hole. If the 3 mm (1/8 in) drill bit fits into the PCV hose stem, the PCV orifice restrictor is missing.

  3. Inspect the PCV hose stem (part of the camshaft cover) to determine if the PCV orifice restrictor is installed and installed properly. Refer to the illustration to view an example of a (arrow 1) properly and (arrow 2) improperly installed PCV orifice restrictor. Weld flashing is present on a properly installed PCV orifice restrictor (arrow 1). No weld flashing is present on an improperly installed PCV orifice restrictor (arrow 2). The PCV orifice restrictor will not be firmly attached to the PCV hose stem if it is not properly installed. The ‘arrow 2’ picture also illustrates a loose and protruding PCV orifice restrictor.
  4. Notice: The purpose of this step is to ensure that the PCV orifice restrictor is welded firmly in place. To avoid damaging the PCV hose stem or the PCV orifice restrictor, do not apply excessive force when attempting to remove the PCV orifice restrictor from the PCV hose stem.

       • If it appears that the PCV orifice restrictor is installed properly, use your fingernail to attempt to remove the PCV orifice restrictor from the PCV hose stem. Refer to step 4 if the PCV orifice restrictor is welded firmly in place. Refer to step 3 if the PCV orifice restrictor is not welded firmly in place.
       • If the PCV orifice restrictor is missing, proceed to step 3.

Important: The camshaft cover (P/N 92067571) is available in parts inventory. Ensure that the PCV orifice restrictor is installed properly before installing the new camshaft cover.

  5. Discard the old camshaft cover and install a new camshaft cover, P/N 92067571. Refer to "Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement" in SI.

  6. Object Number: 1769938 Size: SH
  7. Mark the PCV hose with paint or marker to show that the PCV orifice restrictor has been inspected.
