E-1460-1 Power Steering Pump Shaft Seal Installer
Important: The power steering pump housing bush (2) must be installed so that it is flush with the power steering pump housing (1). The notch (3) in the power steering pump housing bush (2) must be aligned with the power steering pump housing bush lubrication passage (4) in the power steering pump housing (1).
Important: Use a suitable drift to install the bush.
Important: Make sure the rear end plate bush (1) is installed to 3.5 mm below the surface of the rear end plate (2).
Important: Use a suitable drift to install the bush.
Important: Lubricating lip type seals with the system lubricant before installation will minimise the potential of seal leakage.
Important: Lubricating O-ring seals with the system lubricant before installation will minimise the potential of seal leakage.
Important: Make sure the O-rings (1) are seated correctly in the housing.
Important: The thrust plate must be installed correctly. Due to the asymmetric shape of the plate, it can be installed in either direction.
Important: Do not damage the seal lip (3) with the power steering pump drive shaft splines (4) during power steering pump drive shaft installation.
Important: Do not allow the thrust plate to become dislodged from the power steering pump housing.
Important: Do not clamp the power steering pump housing (4) with excessive force, as this will distort the power steering pump housing.
Important: If the full circumference retainer ring does not fit firmly in the groove, replace with a new one. Do not use a conventional Circlip or C-clip. Only use a full circumference retainer ring.
Important: Place the full circumference retainer ring (3) on the shaft and using of soft headed hammer and a deep 11 mm socket, tap the ring into place. Make sure the full circumference retainer ring (3) is correctly seated in the groove.
Important: If required, use a small amount of petroleum jelly to assist in holding the vanes (1) in place.
Important: Lubricating O-ring seals with the system lubricant before installation will minimise the potential of seal leakage.
Install the NEW rear end plate seal (1) into the groove in the power steering pump housing (2).
Important: The power steering pump ring must be installed correctly, the "MS" mark must face towards the front of the power steering pump
Important: The rear end plate (1) must sit within 2 mm (A) of the pump housing (2). If the rear end plate (1) is raised more than 2 mm (A) from the surface of the pump housing (2), remove the rear end plate (1) and realign the thrust plate.
Carefully remove the rear end plate (1) and make sure all the vanes are in place and manipulate into position if required.
Reinstall the rear end plate (1).
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts in a cross pattern to 30 N·m
(22 lb ft).
Important: When installing the droop flow control valve assembly to make sure the valve assembly moves freely within the cavity bore.
Important: Lubricating the O-ring seals with the system lubricant before installation will minimise the potential of seal leakage.
Tighten
Tighten the high pressure outlet fitting to 80 N·m.
Important: The pump inlet pipe (2) must face the same direction as the high pressure outlet when installed correctly.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 12 N·m.
