The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Customers may comment about a variety of electrical concerns, including interior lights inoperative, speaker static or no audio, SIR message with codes stored, OnStar or XM inoperative, or the battery going dead overnight or after a few days.

There are a couple areas where the wire harnesses in the vehicle should be inspected for wire chaffing or for being pinched.

The first area to inspect is by the park brake pedal mechanism. It is possible for the wire harness to be tight against a sharp edge on the park brake mechanism.

The second area to inspect is under and behind the rear seat. The wire harnesses are routed on the driver and passenger sides under the back seat and behind the seat back. The wire harnesses can be pinched by the seat back or can rub on the edge of the sheet metal in these areas.

Repair any wires found to be pinched or chaffed per SI procedures. Then reroute the harness away from all pinch points and sharp edges.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
