Passenger Front Seat Back Squeak/Creak/Pop/Clicking Noise (Install Updated Passenger Seat Back Lumbar Support)

Subject:Passenger Front Seat Back Squeak/Creak/Pop/Clicking Noise (Install Updated Passenger Seat Back Lumbar Support)

Models:2006-2007 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo
with Front Bucket Deluxe Seat (RPO AR9) and Lumbar Support



Condition

Some customers may comment on a squeak, creak, pop or clicking noise coming from the passenger front seat back assembly.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the lumbar support suspension assembly rubbing inside the seat back frame.

Correction

Install the updated passenger (right) front seat back lumbar support using the procedure below.

  1. Verify the noise is coming from inside the passenger seat back assembly.
  2. Position the passenger seat to the full forward and tilt up position.
  3. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.
  4. Disconnect the seat belt anchor nut from the seat frame.
  5. Remove the front passenger seat head restraint. Refer to Head Restraint Replacement in SI.
  6. Remove the passenger front seat from the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement - Front Bucket in SI.
  7. Remove the seat cushion outer trim panel. Refer to Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
  8. If the vehicle is equipped with heated seats and a power seat recliner, disconnect the electrical connector and harness retainers.
  9. Remove the front seat back cushion finish panel. Refer to Seat Back Panel Replacement in SI.
  10. Unhook the seat back J-channels holding the seat cushion cover to the seat back frame.
  11. Important: If having trouble unhooking the J-channels, it may be necessary to unbolt the seat back from the bottom seat frame. Refer to Front Seat Back Frame Replacement in SI.

  12. Reposition the seat back cover and pad up, in order to gain access to the lumbar assembly.

  13. Object Number: 1600827  Size: MF
  14. Remove the front seat lumbar support assembly (2). Refer to Front Seat Lumbar Support Replacement in SI.
  15. Install the updated lumbar support assembly.
  16. Install the seat back pad and cover to the seat back frame.
  17. Reattach the seat back cover to the seat back frame with the J-channels.
  18. Important: If the seat back frame was unbolted from the bottom seat frame, it will need to be reinstalled at this time. Refer to Front Seat Back Frame Replacement in SI.

  19. Install the front seat back cushion finish panel. Refer to Seat Back Panel Replacement in SI.
  20. If the vehicle is equipped with heated seats and the power seat recliner, connect the electrical connector and attach the harness retainers.
  21. Install the seat cushion outer trim panel. Refer to Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement in SI.
  22. Install the passenger front seat back into the vehicle. Refer to Seat Replacement-Front Bucket in SI.
  23. Install and tighten the rear seat adjuster bolts.
  24. Tighten
    Torque the seat adjuster bolts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  25. Install the front passenger seat head restraint.
  26. Install the seat belt to the seat frame and tighten the seat belt anchor nut.
  27. Tighten
    Tighten the seat belt anchor nut to 42 N·m (31 lb ft).

  28. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SI.
  29. Verify the proper operation of the seat assembly.
