Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
  2. Remove the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.

  3. Remove the accelerator cable (5) from the accelerator pedal (1).

    4. Object Number: 12262 Size: SH
  4. Attach a piece of mechanics wire to aid in the installation of the new cable.

  5. Squeeze the accelerator cable cover tangs and push the accelerator cable through the cowl.

  6. Remove the accelerator cable from both retaining clips.

    7. Object Number: 12265 Size: SH
  7. Remove the accelerator cable from the throttle body lever.

    8. Object Number: 12258 Size: SH
  8. Remove the accelerator cable from the accelerator cable bracket.

    9. Object Number: 12715 Size: SH

    Important: Note the routing of the accelerator cable for removal.

  9. Remove the piece of mechanics wire from the cable.
  10. Remove the accelerator cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 12715 Size: SH

    Notice: Do not route flexible components (hoses, wires, conduits, etc.) within 50 mm (2 in) of moving parts unless flexible components can be securely fastened. This is necessary in order to prevent possible interference and damage to the component.

  1. Attach the mechanics wire to the new cable.
  2. Install the accelerator cable to vehicle using the routing verified during removal.

  3. Install the accelerator cable through the cowl.
  4. Remove the mechanics wire from the cable.

    5. Object Number: 12287 Size: SH
  5. Install the accelerator cable (5) to the accelerator pedal lever (1).

    6. Object Number: 12265 Size: SH
  6. Install the accelerator cable to the throttle body lever.

    7. Object Number: 12258 Size: SH
  7. Install the accelerator cable to the accelerator cable bracket.

    8. Object Number: 12717 Size: SH
  8. Install the accelerator cable to the retaining clips.
  9. Inspect for complete throttle opening and closing positions by operating the accelerator pedal. Inspect for proper carpet fit under the accelerator pedal.
  10. Install the left instrument panel sound insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Panel Replacement - Left Side in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
  11. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 3.8L.
