STEP ADDED TO PUMP BUSHING BORE 2004R

Model and Year 1987-88 CAPRICE, MONTE CARLO, AND EL CAMINO WITH THM 200-4R

The above referenced Chevrolet models equipped with THM 200-4R transmissions carrying a julian date of 009 (January 9, 1987), incorporate a machined step added to the pump bushing bore. The addition of this step is to prevent bushing "walk-out".

This change to the pump is also incorporated in all service packages shipped with carton date code B7 or later. The new pumps will service all year and model transmissions.

Because of the added step to the bore of the pump body, removal/installation procedures and tool for the pump body bushing bore have been changed. The new pump body bushing installation will required the use of Kent-Moore tool J25019-20. The adaptor, 20, can be obtained individually from Kent-Moore Tool Corporation through normal procedures.

Always take care not to scratch machined surfaces of the pump cover, protect the cover by placing cloth or cardboard between machined surfaces and the tool as necessary. Apply grease to the new bushing and threaded parts of the tool. Refer to illustrations contained within this bulletin.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
