CAMPAIGN: TCC DOES NOT APPLY A/T CASE ELEC. CONN.& O-RING

GENERAL MOTORS HAS DETERMINED THAT CERTAIN 1987 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO MODEL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 5.0L H.O. ENGINE AND AUTOMATIC TRANS- MISSION MAY EXHIBIT A CONDITION WHERE THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH (TCC) DOES NOT APPLY, OR TCC APPLIES ONLY AT HIGH SPEEDS. CORRECTION OF THESE VEHICLES WILL CONSIST OF REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION CASE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR AND O-RING ASSEMBLY WITH A TWO PRONG (TERMINAL) CASE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR AND O-RING ASSEMBLY. VEHICLES INVOLVED INVOLVED ARE CERTAIN 1987 CHEVROLET MONTE CARLO MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 5.0L H.O. ENGINE (RPP L69, VIN CODE G) AND THM 200-4R TRANSMISSION (RPO MW9) BUILT WITHIN THE FOLLOWING VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER BREAKPOINTS: PLANT FROM THROUGH PONTIAC HP111368 HP113771 INVOLVED VEHICLES HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BY VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION COMPUTER LISTINGS. COMPUTER LISTINGS CONTAIN THE COMPLETE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, OWNER NAME AND ADDRESS DATA, AND ARE FURNISHED TO THE INVOLVED DEALERS WITH THE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN. OWNER NAME AND ADDRESS DATA FURNISHED WILL ENABLE DEALERS TO FOLLOW-UP WITH OWNERS INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN. THESE LISTINGS MAY CONTAIN OWNER NAMES AND ADDRESSES OBTAINED FROM STATE MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION RECORDS. THE USE OF SUCH MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION DATA FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE IS A VIOLATION OF LAW IN SEVERAL STATES. TO ENSURE THAT THESE PARTS ARE OBTAINED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, THEY SHOULD BE ORDERED ON A C.I.O. WITH NO SPECIAL INSTRUCTION CODE, BUT ON AN ADVISE CODE (2). PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION QUANTITY/VEHICLE 8634383 ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR 1 AND O-RING ASSEMBLY 8634198 GASKET-TRANS. OIL PAN 1 NPN DEXTRON II TRANS. FLUID 7.0 PTS. (OR EQUIVALENT) DUE TO THE SMALL NUMBER OF VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THIS PRODUCT CAMPAIGN (APPROXIMATELY 313) YOU ARE ENCOURAGED TO ORDER PARTS ONLY FOR THOSE VEHICLES ASSIGNED TO YOUR DEALERSHIP ACCORDING TO THE ATTACHED LIST. THIS WILL ENSURE SUFFICIENT PARTS AVAILABILITY FOR ALL INVOLVED DEALERS. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. RAISE AND SUPPORT VEHICLE ON HOIST. 2. REMOVE TRANSMISSION PAN BOLTS AND DRAIN TRANSMISSION FLUID. 3. DISCONNECT SOLENOID ASSEMBLY ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR (A, FIGURE 2) FROM CASE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. 4. REMOVE CASE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR (WHILE) FROM TRANSMISSION AND REPLACE WITH BLUE TWO TERMINAL CONNECTOR (39, FIGURE 2) AND O-RING (40, FIGURE 2). 5. RECONNECT SOLENOID ASSEMBLY ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR. 6. CLEAN TRANSMISSION PAN, REPLACE GASKET AND REINSTALL PAN ON VEHICLE, TORQUE BOLTS 8.0-14.0 NM (6.0-10.0 LB. FT.). 7. LOWER VEHICLE AND REFILL TRANSMISSION WITH DEXTRON II TRANSMISSION FLUID OR EQUIVALENT. 8. INSTALL CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL. CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL EACH VEHICLE CORRECTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS OUTLINED IN THIS PRODUCT CAMPAIGN BULLETIN WILL REQUIRE A "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL." EACH LABEL PROVIDES A SPACE TO INCLUDE THE FIVE DIGIT DEALER CODE OF THE DEALER PERFORMING THE CAMPAIGN SERVICE. THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INSERTED WITH A TYPEWRITER OR BALLPOINT PEN. EACH "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" IS TO BE LOCATED ON THE RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT IN AN AREA WHICH WILL BE VISIBLE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN FOR PERIODIC SERVICING BY THE OWNER. APPLY "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" ONLY ON A CLEAN DRY SURFACE.
