REAR LICENSE PLATE POCKET PAINT PEEL OFF OF ASSEMBLY

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985 'G' Car ------------

Some 1985 Monte Carlos are being returned to Dealers because of paint peeling from the rear license plate pocket assembly.

This condition is the result of gasoline spillage on to the license plate pocket which, over a period of time may cause poor paint adhesion.

Improved license plate pocket assemblies are now being used in production, which allows for better paint adhesion.

Repair requires that the old license plate pocket be replaced with a new one. Repainting is not recommended. The new parts shown below are available from Gm Parts.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
