Some 1982 3.8L engines may encounter cold driveability conditions such as hesitation or backfire during the first 1.0 mile of driving. Unstable or rough idle has also been encountered on some "B" cars with the LC3 engine.
A new PROM has been released for service for two (2) purposes:
(1) to improve cold driveability in .3 to 1.0 mile range.
(2) to increase curb idle speed from 550 rpm to 600 rpm in drive, A/C off in "B" cars only.
The following chart gives the PROM usage.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
