Removal Procedure

    Important:

       • Discharge and recover the A/C system refrigerant, and remove the compressor from the vehicle, before performing compressor repairs.
       • During service of the compressor, prevent dirt and other foreign material from getting on the compressor parts and into the system. Clean tools and a clean work area are essential for proper service. Keep the compressor and the parts clean at all times.
       • Clean all parts that you will reassemble with a suitable solvent, and air-dry the parts.
       • Use only lint-free cloths in order to wipe the parts.
       • Drain and discard the oil that remains in the compressor. Add 90 ml (3.0 fl oz) of new refrigerant oil when the repairs are complete.

  1. Inspect for signs of refrigerant leakage. Replace the pressure relief valve if the valve is open.
  2. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  3. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  4. Object Number: 354725 Size: SH
  5. Remove the pressure relief valve (2) from the compressor.
  6. Discard the O-ring (3).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 354725 Size: SH
  1. Lubricate the O-ring (3) with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.
  2. Install the O-ring on the pressure relief valve (2).
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the pressure relief valve to the compressor.
  5. Tighten
Tighten the pressure relief valve to 12-18 N·m (8.8-13 lb ft).

  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Evacuate and recharge the air conditioning (A/C) system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  8. Operate the A/C system, and test the system for refrigerant leaks. Refer to Leak Testing .
