Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Remove the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the stoplamp switch electrical connector.
  3. Press the brake pedal.

  5. Remove the locknut from the threaded portion (2) of the stoplamp switch (4).
  6. Unscrew the stoplamp switch (4).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the stoplamp switch.
  2. Adjust the stoplamp switch using the following procedure:
  3. 2.1. Pull the brake pedal all the way back and hold.
    2.2. Adjust the switch (4) position so that the switch plunger is pressed by the brake pedal contact plate. Ensure that the threaded portion of the switch (2) is within 1.5-2.0 mm (0.06-0.08 in) from the pedal contact plate.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Press the brake pedal. Install the stoplamp switch locknut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the stoplamp switch locknut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  6. Connect the stoplamp switch electrical connector.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement
