Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Clean the outside of the reservoir.
- Disconnect the fluid level switch electrical connector.
- Remove the reservoir cap.
- Siphon the fluid from the reservoir.
- Remove the reservoir pin (3)
using a hammer and a punch.

equivalent DOT 3 brake fluid from a clean, sealed container. Do not
use fluid from an open container that may be contaminated with water.
Improper or contaminated fluid could result in damage to components, or
loss of braking, with possible injury.
- Install the new reservoir grommets (3)
into the master cylinder (5). Ensure that the grommets are seated properly.
- Lubricate the grommets with new, clean brake fluid.
- Install the reservoir (2) to the master cylinder (5).
- Install the reservoir pin (4) using a hammer and a punch.
- Connect the fluid level switch electrical connector.
- Refill the reservoir with brake fluid GM P/N 12377967,
or equivalent. Refer to
Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling
.
- Inspect for fluid leakage.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Cable Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Bleed the brake system. Refer to
