Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement Disc Brakes
Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.
Removal Procedure
- Ensure that the park brake pedal is in the fully released position.
- Remove the floor console. Refer to
Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the rear carpet. Refer to
Rear Floor Panel Carpet Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the right rear park brake cable (1) or the left rear park brake cable (2) from the console park brake bracket (5)
and the front park brake cable equalizer (6).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the plastic retainer clips (1) from the body, if equipped.
- Remove the cable from the bracket (1), if equipped.
- Remove the plastic retainer clip (2) from the body.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tire and Wheels.
- Remove the rear park brake cable retainer bolt (1).
- Remove the rear park brake cable from the caliper park brake lever.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the plastic retainer clip (3) from the stud.
- Remove the park brake cable and pass-thru grommet (4) from the body and remove the cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the park brake cable to the vehicle.
- Install the park brake cable and pass-thru grommet (4) to the body.
- Install the plastic retainer clip (3) to the stud.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the rear park brake cable to the caliper park brake lever.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the rear park brake cable retainer bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
- Install the plastic retainer clips (1) to the body, if equipped.
- Install the plastic retainer clip (2), if equipped.
- Install the cable to the bracket (1).
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to
Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
in Tire and Wheels.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the right rear park brake cable (1) or the left rear park brake cable (2) to the console park brake bracket (5)
and the front park brake cable equalizer (6).
- Install the rear carpet. Refer to
Rear Floor Panel Carpet Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Install the floor console. Refer to
Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Cycle the park brake pedal 4 times.
Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement Drum Brakes
Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.
Removal Procedure
- Ensure that the park brake pedal is in the fully released position.
- Remove the floor console. Refer to
Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the rear carpet. Refer to
Rear Floor Panel Carpet Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the right rear park brake cable (1) or
the left rear park brake cable (2) from the console park brake bracket (5)
and the front park brake cable equalizer (6).
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Release the tension from the park brake
cable system by pulling down on the short cable (2) to drum and releasing the
cable (3) from the cable connector (1).
- Remove the plastic retainer clips (1) from the
body.
- Remove the brake cable (2) from the trailing arm.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the plastic retainer clip (3) from the
stud.
- Remove the park brake cable and pass-thru grommet (4) from the
body and remove the cable from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the park brake cable to the vehicle.
- Install the park brake cable and pass-thru grommet (4) to the body.
- Install the plastic retainer clip (3) to the stud.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the plastic retainer clips (1) to the
body.
- Install the brake cable (2) into the trailing arm.
- Connect the park brake cable (3)
to the cable connector (1).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the right rear park brake cable (1) or
the left rear park brake cable (2) to the console park brake bracket (5)
and the front park brake cable equalizer (6).
- Install the rear carpet. Refer to
Rear Floor Panel Carpet Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Install the floor console. Refer to
Console Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Cycle the park brake pedal 4 times.
