Subject:Intermittent Click, No Crank with No DTCs - Reprogram PCM

Models:2004-2006 Chevrolet Malibu
with 2.2L Engine (VIN F - RPO L61)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

On rare occasions, an intermittent no crank, no start. If this is verified, one click may be heard from the starter solenoid when the key is initially turned to the crank position. If the key is held in the crank position at this time, the engine will not crank. However, if the key is released from the crank position momentarily and turned back to the crank position, the engine will start normally. Typically, this is very intermittent and no DTCs will be stored.

Recommendation/Instructions:

If the SI diagnostics do not isolate a cause for this concern, reprogram the PCM with the latest TIS2Web calibrations and evaluate the concern. At this time, the latest calibration is titled "New calibration to address customer complaint of intermittent no crank, also improves transmission performance in garage shifts." This calibration, or any that follow, is designed to address this concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
