Removal Procedure
Important: When replacing a failed compressor it will be necessary to inspect the
expansion orifice tube for material build up. Clean or replace as necessary.
Refer to
Expansion (Orifice) Tube Replacement
.
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant
Recovery and Recharging
.
- Remove the drive belt. Refer
Drive Belt Replacement
Engine Mechanical - 3.4L.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the left front wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to
Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement
in Body
Front End.
- Disconnect the electrical
connection at the compressor.
- Remove the compressor/condenser
hose from the compressor.
- Remove and discard the seal washers.
- Remove the three compressor
attaching bolts.
- Remove the compressor and the spacer.
Installation Procedure
Important: When servicing or replacing the compressor, drain and measure the oil
from the compressor.
- Drain the compressor oil from the new compressor.
- Refill the compressor with the same amount of oil that was drained
from the old compressor.
If less than 60 ml (1 oz) was drained from the old compressor,
add 60 ml (2 oz).
- Install the bolts and the spacer to the compressor.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bolts,
the spacer, and the compressor to the engine.
Tighten
- Tighten the front top bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Tighten the front rear bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Tighten the bottom bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
- Install NEW seal washers
to the compressor ports.
- Install the compressor/condenser hose and the bolt to the compressor.
Tighten
Tighten the hose bolt to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
- Connect the electrical
connection to the compressor.
- Install the left front wheel house splash shield. Refer to
Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement
in Body
Front End.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the drive belt. Refer
Drive Belt Replacement
Engine Mechanical - 3.4L.
- Recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant
Recovery and Recharging
