Condition

Some customers may comment on a scraping noise when turning the steering wheel.

Cause

This condition may be caused by contact between the rear of the steering wheels and the steering column covers.

Correction

Important: Always refer to the Service Information DVD for removal and installation procedures not shown here.

  1. Remove the steering wheel.
  2. Remove the steering column lower cover.
  3. Figure 1 -- Lower Cover Attaching Points (3 places)

  4. Using a small round file, elongate the three attaching holes in the lower cover as shown. Elongate the holes toward the steering wheel end of the cover to enable the cover to be reinstalled with additional clearance to the steering wheel.
  5. Reinstall the covers. Ensure that the lower cover is biased towards the front of the vehicle before tightening the attaching screw.
  6. Reinstall all remaining components.
