Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement

Important: When installing a rear wheel bearing, the bearing MUST be installed in the correct orientation.

If the wheel bearing is installed in the wrong orientation, the ABS/ESP warming light will illuminate and associated wheel speed sensor DTCs will set. This is because the wheel speed sensor uses the wheel bearing as the "tone wheel" pickup.

The photo below shows the end of the wheel bearing that has a black plastic/rubber cap. This end of the bearing must be installed inwards towards the center of the vehicle, closest to the sensor. This is the wheel speed sensor pickup end.
