Subject:Intermittent Operation of Central Locking (Update RFA Software)

Models:2007 Chevrolet Caprice, Lumina (Export)
Built Prior to VIN Breakpoint 7L886497

Condition

Customers may comment that the central locking remote key fob will not unlock the vehicle. This condition is typically intermittent. Once they have unlocked the vehicle using the key, the remote will function normally until the vehicle is locked and left for a short period of time.

Manual entry may activation of the alarm system. The vehicle will start and operate normally.

Cause

This conditiona may be caused by asoftware issue with the Remote Function Actuator (RFA).

Correction

If a vehicle exhibits the condition in which the central locking remote system is ntermittently inoperative, perform the following steps to confirm that the RFA is the cause of the condition

  1. Remove fuse #7 (located in the LH "A" pillar) for two minutes.
  2. Reinstall fuse #7 and check if the vehicle will unlock via the remote after the vehicle has been left locked for 10 to 15 minutes .
  3. If the remote now functions, then the cause is RFA-related and revised software should be installed.

Perform SPS (Service Programming System) of the RFA using normal TIS 2000 procedure. Revised software is available from TIS 2000 CD #10.

Important: All existing remotes and the tire pressure monitoring sensors will be erased when the RFA is reflashed via SPS. It is essential that all customer remote keys are available to reprogram.

Program the RFA follwing the procedure in Service Information as follows: Vehicle Control Systems / Programming and Set Up / Remote Central Door Lock Receiver Programming and Setup

When programming remote keys, the ignition must not be turned off to swap keys. Therefore, the key must remain in the ignition while it is being programmed.

If the vehicle is equipped with a tire pressure monitoring (TPMS) system, the TPMS sensors must be relearned. Refer to SI for the procedure.
