Removal Procedure

Valve lifters should be kept in order so they may be installed in their original position.

If the lifters are removed, they must be installed in their original location. If replacement is necessary, use the lifters with a narrow flat ground along the lower 3/4 of the lifter. These flats provide additional oil to the cam lobe and the lifter surfaces. Oversized lifters are available for service.

Installation Procedure

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the valve lifters
  2. Important: Whenever new valve lifters are being installed, coat the foot of the valve lifters with camshaft and lifter prelube, GM P/N 1052365 or equivalent.
