J 35944-A Transaxle Oil Cooler
and Line Flusher
Caution: Air supply must be equipped with a water and oil filter. This air supply
must not exceed 825 kPa (120 psi). Excess air pressure may rupture
the flushing cooler, causing personal injury.
Caution: If water does not flow through the oil cooler (system is completely
plugged), do not continue flushing procedure. Turn the water immediately and
inspect the pipes and ooler for restrictions and repair, or personal injury
could result.
Important: Do not overfill the J 35944-A
.
Follow the manufacturer's suggested procedures for solution handling.
- Remove the fill cap on the J 35944-A
and fill the flusher with 0.6 Litre (20 oz) of flushing solution.
- Replace the cap on the J 35944-A
and
pressurize to 550-700 kPa (80-100 psi).
- Connect the discharge hose to the transaxle end of the oil cooler
pipe that feeds the bottom fitting of the oil cooler.
- Clip the discharge hose to the oil drain container.
- Connect the feed hose from the J 35944-A
to
the remaining cooler pipe.
- With the water valve on the J 35944-A
in
the Off position, connect the water supply to the tool.
- Turn the water supply on.
- Flush the transaxle fluid by opening the water valve to the On
position for approximately 10 seconds.
Caution: If water does not flow through the cooler, do not continue with the
flushing procedure. The cooling system may be plugged and excess pressure
may rupture the cooler, causing personal injury. Replace the cooler pipe or
the cooler if necessary.
- Close the water valve.
- Clip the discharge hose to the 5-gallon pail.
- Cover the pail with a shop towel in order to prevent splashing.
- Turn the water valve to the On position and depress the trigger
to mix the flushing solution into the water flow. Use the bale clip provided
in order to hold the trigger down.
Important: In order to create a surging action and ensure a complete cleaning during
the flush, attach the air supply to the air valve located on the tool for
three to five seconds every 15-20 seconds.
- Flush the cooler with water and solution for two minutes.
- Release the trigger and turn the water valve off.
- Disconnect both hoses from the cooler pipes.
- Reconnect the hoses to the pipes opposite the initial flush in
order to perform to backflush.
- Release the trigger and allow the water to rinse for one minute.
- Turn the water valve and the water supply off.
- Attach the air supply to the air valve and dry the system out
with air until you see no moisture leaving the discharge hose.
- Connect the cooler feed pipe to the transaxle.
- Reconnect the discharge hose to the cooler return pipe and clip
the hose to the oil drain container.
- After filling the transaxle with fluid, start and run the engine
for 30 seconds. Running the engine removes any residual moisture from
the oil cooler. A minimum of two quarts of fluid should flow during the 30-second
period. If the fluid flow is insufficient, check the fluid flow from the transaxle
by disconnecting the feed line at the cooler and observe the flow with the
engine running.
- Observe the flow for the following:
• | Insufficient flow from the transaxle: inspect the transaxle for
the cause. |
• | Sufficient flow from the transaxle: inspect the cooler pipes and
fittings, and repeat the flushing procedure. |
- If flow through the cooler is still insufficient, replace the
cooler. Refer to
Air Cleaner Element
.
- Remove the discharge hose and connect the cooler pipe.
- Adjust the fluid level.
- Inspect for the following:
• | Proper completion of repairs |
