APPLICATION: 1990-92 "U" VAN
THE ROOF PANELS (BLACK PORTIONS ONLY) MAY SHOW A CHALKING OR WHITENING SURFACE AND THE OUTSIDE EDGES OF THE BLACK ROOF PANELS MAY HAVE ETCH MARKS.
REFINISH THE BLACK PORTIONS OF THE ROOF PANEL(S) USING THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE.
1. REMOVE UPPER WINDSHIELD MOLDING.
2. REMOVE ROOF LUGGAGE RACK SIDE RAILS AND CROSS RAILS, IF EQUIPPED.
3. IF EQUIPPED, MASK LUGGAGE RACK SKID STRIPS FOR PROTECTION DURING SANDING OPERATIONS.
4. MASK THE BODY COLOR PAINTED ROOF SURFACES FOR PROTECTION DURING SANDING.
5. REMOVE THE CHALKING CLEARCOAT MATERIAL FROM THE BLACK ROOF PANELS USING A DA (DUAL ACTION ORBITAL SANDER) AND #180 GRIT SANDING DISCS.
6. LIGHTLY RE-SAND WITH #240 OR #320 GRIT SANDPAPER TO SMOOTH THE SURFACE.
7. BLOW OFF THE SANDING DUST AND RESIDUE.
8. REMOVE MASKING TAPE AND RE-MASK ALL NECESSARY AREAS FOR PAINTING.
9. WIPE AND CLEAN REPAIR AREA WITH A WAX AND GREASE REMOVER.
10. WIPE REPAIR AREA WITH A TACK RAG.
11. APPLY A COAT OF PRIMER SEALER. FOLLOW MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND RECOMMENDED DRY TIMES.
12. APPLY 2 TO 3 MEDIUM WET COATS OF BLACK BASECOAT (OR UNTIL PRIMER IS HIDDEN). FOLLOW MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND RECOMMENDED DRY TIMES.
13. APPLY CLEARCOAT. FOLLOW MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND RECOMMENDED DRY TIMES.
14. AFTER SUFFICIENT FORCE DRY OR AIR DRY TIME, REMOVE MASKING.
15. FINESSE/POLISH AS REQUIRED.
16. REINSTALL PREVIOUSLY REMOVED HARDWARE AND MOLDINGS.
